The Bachelor of Science in Library & Information Sciences is a four-year degree program that prepares students to manage, organize, and facilitate access to information in a variety of settings. The curriculum covers library management, cataloging and classification, information retrieval systems, digital libraries, research methods, and emerging technologies in information science. Students gain practical experience through internships and hands-on training with library software and digital tools. BS Library & Information Sciences graduates are equipped to support education, research, and knowledge sharing. Career opportunities include roles as librarians, information specialists, archivists, knowledge managers, and documentation officers in academic institutions, public libraries, research centers, and corporate organizations.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs):

PEO 1: Graduates will demonstrate expertise in library science principles, modern technologies, and innovative practices to deliver user-centered and sustainable library and information services that address diverse community needs.
PEO 2: Graduates will exhibit leadership, teamwork, and ethical responsibility in managing library operations, preserving cultural heritage, and promoting equitable access to information within a global and culturally diverse environment.
PEO 3: Graduates will engage in continuous learning, professional development, and research activities to contribute to advancements in library science and adapt to emerging trends in information management.

Program Learning Outcomes:

PLO-1 Knowledge: Apply knowledge of library science values, information management, and associated disciplines to resolve real-world tasks in library and information settings.
PLO-2 Problem Analysis: Identify, analyze, and report user information necessities and tasks using a systematic approach to develop effective solutions.
PLO-3 Design and Development of Solutions: Design, develop, and implement user-centered library services, systems, and policies to meet the various needs of populations.
PLO-4 Investigation: Conduct surveys using suitable research methods to evaluate information resources, systems, and applications in library science.
PLO-5 Tool Usage: Select and apply current tools, technologies, and practices for proficient organization, retrieval, and dissemination of information.
PLO-6 Professional and Ethical Responsibility: Demonstrate an understanding of professional ethics, intellectual property rights, and social responsibilities in managing information and services.
PLO-7 Environment and Sustainability: Identify the role of libraries in upholding sustainable development and preserving cultural and historical heritage for future generations.
PLO-8 Teamwork and Leadership: Function effectively as an individual, team member, or leader in multidisciplinary and varied settings to attain common goals.
PLO-9 Communication: Communicate effectively with numerous stakeholders, including library users, staff, and members of the public, through oral, written, and digital mediums.
PLO-10 Project Management: Apply management principles to plan, organize, and evaluate library processes and projects within resource limits.
PLO-11 Lifelong Learning: Engage in lifelong learning and professional development to adjust to evolving trends and progress in library and information science.
PLO-12 Global and Cultural Awareness: Demonstrate an understanding of global issues, cultural diversity, and bias-free practice, and their influence on library facilities and information access.

Eligibility

4 Years: Candidates holding an Intermediate certificate with at least 45% marks, or A-Levels with an equivalency certificate from IBCC Islamabad, or an equivalent certificate from a recognized institution are eligible to apply.
5 Years: Candidates holding a Bachelor degree (14 years of education) with at least 45% marks in the annual system, or an AD in a non-relevant discipline with 2.00 CGPA on the scale of 4.00 from a recognized institution, are eligible to apply. After the Bridge Semester, the scheme from the 5th till 8th Semester will be followed.
2 Years: Candidates holding an Associate Degree in a relevant discipline with at least 45% marks in the annual system, or 2.00 CGPA on the scale of 4.00 in the semester system from a recognized institution, are eligible to apply. The scheme from the 5th till 8th Semester will be followed.
Candidates will be required to pass an entry test or an aptitude interview conducted by the university.
