The Department of Urdu at Sarhad University of Science & IT is committed to promoting the richness of Urdu language, literature, and linguistic heritage through its Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD programs. With a focus on classical and modern Urdu literature, literary criticism, linguistics, and creative writing, the department offers a comprehensive academic experience that deepens students’ understanding and appreciation of one of the region’s most expressive languages. In addition to courses in language and literature, provision has been made for the teaching of subjects whose study will enable students to test their abilities in the various fields of practical life and to meet their economic needs. To enable students to select, with greater ease, topics of study that address their economic needs and prove useful to them in practical life.

Language is the finest medium through which human beings express their thoughts, ideas, concepts, emotions and feelings. Without acquiring genuine command over it, a person cannot articulate his or her knowledge, ideas and experiences with accuracy. The very purpose of teaching and speaking Urdu is to enable students to converse in the language fluently, coherently and elegantly. Proficiency in Urdu is essential not only for the sake of Urdu itself, but equally for the comprehension and advancement of other branches of knowledge. Urdu is the national language of Pakistan, and no nation can afford to disregard its own national language. A national language dissolves regional distinctions and binds the entire country together in a single thread of unity. It therefore serves not merely as the language of communication throughout the country, but also as a powerful instrument of national cohesion and solidarity.
