Program overview

The Bachelor of Studies in English Language & Literature is a four-year degree program that explores the richness of the English language through the study of classical and contemporary literature, linguistics, and critical theory. The curriculum includes poetry, prose, drama, literary criticism, syntax, phonetics, sociolinguistics, and applied linguistics, along with creative and academic writing. Students develop strong analytical, interpretive, and communication skills. The program prepares graduates for diverse fields such as education, media, publishing, and civil services. Career opportunities include roles as teachers, writers, editors, researchers, communication specialists, and content developers.

Eligibility

4 Years: Candidates holding Intermediate certificate with at least 45% marks or A-Levels with equivalency certificate from IBCC Islamabad or an equivalent certificate from a recognized institution are eligible to apply.
2 Years: Candidates holding Associate Degree in relevant discipline with at least 45% marks or 2.00 CGPA on the scale of 4.00 from a recognized institution are eligible to apply. The scheme from 5th till 8th Semester will be followed.
2.5 Years: Candidates holding Bachelor degree (14 years of education) with at least 45% marks or 2.00 CGPA on the scale of 4.00 from a recognized institution are eligible to apply. After Bridge Semester, the scheme from 5th till 8th Semester will be followed.
Candidates will be required to pass an entry test or an aptitude interview conducted by the university.

Program Objectives and Program Outcomes

Program Objectives:

The program develops learners' ability to critically read and analyze linguistic and literary texts in their historical, socio-political, cultural and philosophical contexts, combined with aesthetic pleasure and intellectual stimulation. Emphasis is on literary expression (poetry, prose, novel, drama, non-fiction) as well as linguistic and rhetorical skills through frequent reading and writing assignments and class discussions.

Program Outcomes:

Students will have profound knowledge of the techniques of textual analysis.
Students will be competent to adequately express themselves in oral and written communication.
Students will have profound knowledge of the key concepts in English language and literature.
Students will be able to critically explore major schools of literary criticism and theory.
Graduates will be able to conduct both qualitative and quantitative research in the fields of English literature and linguistics.
