Program overview

The Associate Degree in Library & Information Sciences is a two-year program that provides foundational knowledge and skills for managing and organizing information resources in libraries and information centers. The curriculum includes library classification, cataloging, reference services, information retrieval, digital libraries, and the use of library software and technology. Students learn how to manage both physical and digital collections, support research needs, and facilitate access to information. Graduates are prepared for entry-level roles such as library assistants, information clerks, catalogers, and documentation officers in schools, colleges, universities, public libraries, and information centers.

Eligibility

  • Candidates holding an Intermediate certificate with at least 45% marks, or A-Levels with an equivalency certificate from IBCC Islamabad, or an equivalent certificate from a recognized institution, are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates need to pass an entry test or an aptitude interview conducted by the University.

Program Objectives:

The program is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge in the core areas of Library & Information Sciences along with necessary computer skills. These graduates will help and support the workforce of professionally qualified and skilled librarians who can meet market demand.

 

Program Outcomes:

  • Apply the knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of the discipline broadly across defined library technology activities.
  • Apply the knowledge of librarians/information professionals to library problems that require the application of principles and procedures of methodologies.
