12th Convocation of Sarhad University of Science & Information Technology, Peshawar was held here today with President of Pakistan, Mr. Mamnoon Hussain as Chief Guest. Chairman, Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad and Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Salim-ur-Rehman were also present on the occasion , besides large number of students and their parents. In total 450 degrees and 24 Gold Medals were awarded. Among degrees, 5 were of PhD, 12 were of MS & M.Phil, 128 were of Masters and 306 were of Bachelors. While addressing the audience, the President of Pakistan has urged the need of higher education, and term it the only way to progress and prosperity of the nation. He said that progress of any country is linked with the literacy rate. Those nations, which invested in education in the past, are reaping fruits of success now. He was of the view that severe situations of the country in terms of law and order, was only due to not paying attention to the education, which created a big threat to the entire population. Still we hope to turn the things in positive way, with our collective wisdom and political vision, he remarked.

Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman, HEC, while expressing his views, appreciated the standards provided by the Sarhad University to its students. He said that HEC has given a new touch to higher education, and instead of going abroad, the students from different countries are now coming to Pakistan for carrying out their higher education in different Pakistani Universities.

While presenting address of welcome, the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Salim-ur-Rehman, highlighted the major achievements of the University. He said that University is offering scholarships and free ships to the IDPs and affectees of Army Public School. He said the University is actively initiating co-curricular activities in different fields, including sports, literary events, declamation contests, science exhibitions, sports galas and youth festival. Recent Publications of the University own books in the field of M.Ed and B.Ed are widely appreciated by the educational circles, he concluded. Later on the Chancellor of the University, Mr. Muhammad Riaz Karim Presented the University Shields and books to the President of Pakistan.
