One-Day Seminar on Understanding Genetics Disorders and Innovation in Treatment under the theme Unraveling the Complexities of Genetic Disorders, From Genes to Therapies was held in Sarhad University, Peshawar under the auspices of SIAHS and in collaboration with Dosti Welfare Foundation, Peshawar, yesterday. The seminar was aimed to disseminate knowledge about genetic disorders and advancements in treatment methodologies.
The event witnessed an impressive turnout of participants including medical professionals, researchers, students, and community members.
Prof. Dr. Zafar Iqbal, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Sarhad University, Peshawar was the Chief Guest in the inaugural ceremony, who emphasized the significance of collaborative efforts in promoting education and awareness about genetic disorders.
Mr. Irfan Khan, Genetic Counselor of Dosti Foundation, presented an overview, shedding light on various types of genetic disorders, preventive measures, and the currently available treatments.
Dr. Gulab Fatima Rani from Khyber Medical University highlighted the crucial topic of thalassemia and its prevention and treatment strategies. She threw light on the importance of screening and the role of community awareness in managing this genetic condition effectively.
Dr. Najeeb Khan from KP-Agricultural University, Peshawar delivered a lecture on the causes and advancements in understanding and treating cancer-related genetic disorders. His presentation highlighted the transformative impact of research and innovation in the field.
The closing ceremony was chaired by Dr. Fazal Mehmood, Director, Sarhad Institute of Allied Health Sciences, Sarhad University, Peshawar who expressed gratitude to the participants for their active engagement. He was of the view that the Seminar will foster collaborative environment for knowledge exchange and highlighted the importance of continuous research and awareness initiatives in improving healthcare outcomes. He also appreciated the efforts of Dosti Foundation for extending help to arrange a useful seminar on the topic.
Later on, he distributed University’s shields among the speakers and participants of the seminar.
